Duplicating a theme in Shopify is a simple way to create a backup or make changes without affecting the live version of your store. Follow the steps below to duplicate your theme easily:
Steps to Duplicate Your Theme:
1. Log in to Shopify Admin:
- First, log in to your Shopify account and go to your Admin dashboard.
2. Navigate to the Themes Section:
- On the left-hand sidebar, click on Online Store and then select Themes. This is where all your store's themes are managed.
3. Select the Theme to Duplicate:
- You'll see your published theme at the top in the Current Theme section. Scroll down to the More Themes section to view all your themes. Find the theme you want to duplicate.
4. Duplicate the Theme:
- Click the Actions dropdown next to the theme you want to duplicate.
- From the dropdown menu, select Duplicate. Shopify will automatically create a copy of the theme and add it to your list of themes.
5. Rename the Duplicate (Optional):
- Once duplicated, the theme will appear in your theme library with the name “Copy of [Theme Name].” You can rename it by clicking Actions > Rename to something that helps you identify the version (e.g., "Theme with New Layout").
6. Edit the Duplicate Theme:
- You can now customize the duplicate without affecting your live store. To do this, click Customize next to the duplicated theme, and start making changes.
Important Notes:
- Duplicating does not publish the theme: Duplicating a theme will create a copy in your theme library, but it won't automatically replace the live theme on your store.
